Oriental Weavers rugs are manufactured with color, design, and value in mind. They are also manufactured to last for years to come, but as with all things, care and cleaning will prolong the life of the rug. We recommend the following:

Regular vacuuming.

Long ends may work to the surface after use or vacuuming. Never pull these ends out - clip them off even with the rug's surface.

Clean spills and spots immediately. Never rub a spill - always blot to prevent fraying of the yarns.

Test cleaning solutions in an inconspicuous area to be sure the cleanser will not damage the fiber.

Periodic professional cleaning.

Wool fibers may be cleaned with a neutral detergent and dried quickly to limit yellowing or browning. Excessive agitation and excessive heat should be avoided as well as chemicals that can easily damage wool such as bleaches and alkalis.

Use a rug pad under our rugs. Although Oriental Weavers does not endorse any specific brand of rug pad, you may ask your Oriental Weavers representative for his/her recommendation.

Rug Cleaning Procedure:

We have created a 6 inch bath using softened water so that the rugs can be submersed wetting both surfaces at the same time. The rugs are soaked for certain period of time. The water is then drained from the bath and then a special Shampoo is sponged into the surface of the rug.

After the sponging is completed the rug is rinsed and turned over in the wash bath and the Shampoo sponging is repeated on the back side and then rinsed.

The rug is submerged again for certain time. The water is then drained and the rinsing procedure is repeated until all the Shampoo is removed. This is determined by taking pH reading of the solution.

The rug is then placed on clean surface and extracted, and then dried at certain temperature.

All aspect of rugs hand washing varies according to the condition of each rug.
